General Information

Its chemical formula is CuSO4. CuSO4.5H2O is widely used in the form of large, blue or ultramerine triklinal crystals or light blue powder. This product, which is excellent in water, is highly soluble in methanol and glycerin. Basically it occurs by reaction of copper with concentrated sulfuric acid. Copper sulphate, which reacts with active metals such as zinc, leaves its copper as elemental, the other metal's sulphate is formed. It breaks down in solution at high temperatures and differences in the color of the product are observed.

Production and Reactions

Copper sulfate is obtained by the reaction of CuO and H2SO4.

Usage areas


Copper sulphate is used as a fungicide in the agricultural sector. It plays an important role in Burgundy Slurry which is prepared for use in plants (Fruit Trees). It is a successful fertilizer solution in meeting the copper needs of plants. Copper is one of the indispensable elements for the synthesis of chlorophyll (green color pigment). Chlorophyll synthesis plays a decisive role in the plant's photosynthesis efficiency and ultimately yield. Copper also provides the formation of proteins and vitamins in the plant. If the deficiency in the cereals is severe and persistent, spike does not occur.
